She builds castles in her sandbox on the second floor,
and dreams of ancient mysteries, though she is only four;
She reads fables, fairytales and nursery rhymes,
envisioning other places, other people, other times;
And it seems as though she's been there, long ago before,
but how can that be? She is only four.

         —-knights and maidens
         —-princes and toads
         —-cabbages and kings
         and yellow brick roads.

Across the sea on a distant shore,
a nineteen-year-old lad is in the midst of war;
"Death to the enemy" is their battle cry,
as they shoot to kill in a twinkling of an eye;
He sees castles all around him destroyed in a rage,
and dreams of far off distant times from another page;
He remembers building castles when he was only four,
in his sandbox on the porch of the second floor;
He recollects the fables, the tales and the rhymes,
envisioning other places, other people, other times;
And it seemed as though he'd been there long ago before,
but how can that be? He was only four.

         —-knights and maidens
         —-princes and toads
         —-cabbages and kings
          and yellow brick roads.

Many years later in a new and different world,
chance brought them together as their paths unfurled;
They walked the paths together discovering a love so great
and time no longer mattered—-just the mysteries of fate;
Was it finally time to build their castle in the sands,
seeking ancient mysteries and times in other lands?

         —-knights and maidens
         —-princes and toads
         —-cabbages and kings
         and yellow brick roads.
The first draft of the manuscript for "Castles in the Sandbox" is complete, but the next step is the most challenging: Cutting, pasting, editing, rewriting . . . in other words, getting it "just right" to submit for publication. Stay tuned on this site for the latest updates on the novel's progress. In the meantime, wishing readers and writers everywhere a wonderful year filled with peace, love and happiness.
